The department of Zoology, Krishnagar Government College, commenced its journey in the year 1984. However, the post graduate course in Zoology was introduced in 2010. From 2018-22, it had been offering both honours and general courses in Zoology under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) along with PG course in Zoology. Following the adoption of NEP 2020 from the 2023-24 session, the department in compliance with the directions of the University of Kalyani shall be offering Major and Minor courses in Zoology to undergraduate students. The department is housed at the Biology building. It occupies a distinguished place at the college due to its quality of teaching and level of research. Dr. Sumana Das, Associate Professor of this Department received the prestigious‘Shiksha-Ratna’ Award from the Government of West Bengal.
